I am Co-Founder of Collage Counseling Center and a member of the Michigan Mental Health Counselors Association. I was honored to be the recipient of the Oakland Counseling Association, Counselor of the Year award in 2014. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education (K-12) from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts in both School(K-12) and Community Counseling from Oakland University. I am also qualified to supervise counselors-in training (LLPC’s) as they move toward state licensure. I retired in 2015 after completing 35 wonderful years as an educator and counselor. I’m elated that I am able to continue my passion of helping others in private practice.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and educator with over three decades of experience, I have enjoyed working on a wide variety of issues with ethnically diverse populations. These include acculturation, anxiety, depression, stress management, low self-esteem, adolescent and family relationships, trauma and loss, and academic and career consultation.
I am passionate about supporting individuals, families and students as they rediscover forgotten aspirations, develop confidence, identify learning styles, and strengthen overall skill sets. The therapeutic alliance is intended to reduce stress and anxiety, as well as support living a bolder and more creative life. My name is Vicki Palmer; Licensed Professional Counselor and I’m one of the Co-Founders of Collage Counseling Center. I received a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources with a Concentration in Early Childhood Education from Oakland University and earned my Master’s in Counseling from Central Michigan University. I completed a dual graduate internship in the Harrison High School Counseling Department and at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital. During my time at Beaumont’s Parenting Program/Mother Infant Nursery, I acquired knowledge and skills to counsel new moms that have developed postpartum distress.
I have over 40 years of experience working with children of all ages, families and adults. My areas of expertise are early childhood intervention, parenting, relationship issues, grief & postpartum. I offer individual, family and couples counseling to effectively address life’s challenges. I was quite proud to be the owner and director of a highly successful nursery and preschool located in Farmington. It was a difficult decision, but I sold the school after 14 years and countless moments of joy.
I am a firm believer that working with a client as soon as possible after problems occur, will contribute to making positive changes and move toward a future filled with hope. This is beneficial for everyone involved; the individual, the family, and other important relationships. I utilize an integrative approach and strive to tailor techniques specifically for each person. I provide an encouraging and respectful environment in which clients can express their feelings, learn coping skills and address issues with confidence. Perhaps, we may need to focus on finding acceptance to deal with a dilemma you’ve endured. Let’s figure it out together.
